Service(s): Environmental Product and Service Screening Program and Program Guideline Development for AIRMILES’ My Planet Rewards Program
Description:
TerraVeritas and TerraChoice Environmental Marketing (a wholly owned subsidiary of TerraChoice Group) partnered with AIRMILES, a LoyaltyOne company, to help it develop two main aspects of its My Planet™ Program – the product and service environmental screening criteria and the My Planet Program Principles.
AIRMILES Collectors now have the option to redeem reward miles for greener products and services from the My Planet rewards catalogue. These greener rewards are selected for inclusion in the My Planet catalogue based on scientifically sound environmental screening criteria developed by TerraVeritas and TerraChoice Environmental Marketing. In addition to developing these product and service screening criteria, TerraChoice worked with and supported AIRMILES in its creation of key Principles to advancing environmental stewardship, and were developed using a sound, life-cycle based approach to ensure that the most important environmental impacts of the entire range of MyPlanet Rewards are addressed. These Principles also provide enough clarity to be implemented consistently by Sponsors, and are easily understood by and resonate with consumers.

With the recent crack down from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Canadian Competition Bureau (CBC) on false or misleading environmental claims being made on products, TerraVeritas is noticing an increase in organizations looking for third party verification and validation of their environmental claims. Over the last 12 months, the FTC and CBC have laid charges related to claims of biodegradable, “environmental safety and soundness”, eco-friendly, organically-grown, fuel efficiency and Energy Star listings.
